Something 500 Feet Wide Crossed Bagram in Silence

The Department of War published its fifth tranche of unidentified anomalous phenomena files on Friday: 41 documents, images and videos drawn from the Pentagon, the FBI, the CIA, the State Department and the Executive Office of the President. 13 The oldest record dates to 1950. The newest is from this year. 1

One account has carried the release.

A military pilot describes being at Bagram, Afghanistan, in 2002, at roughly 4:30 in the morning. Stars began going out overhead. Something crossed from west to east, silently, holding a consistent speed and altitude — he put it at perhaps 150 knots — showing no lights at all. He estimated the object at 500 feet across and described the shape he could make out as an equilateral triangle, while conceding he could not see all of it. 2

Why that account travels

Strip away the setting and it is a report of three things at once: size, silence, and a steady course. Each is individually unremarkable. Together they are awkward, because the airframes that move that slowly at that scale are lighter-than-air, and the ones that are silent are small.

It is also, unavoidably, one man's recollection of a pre-dawn glimpse, written down long after the fact, with no sensor data attached. The Department published it. It did not vouch for it, and neither does UFONN. 1

What else is in the tranche

A clip submitted by U.S. Central Command shows footage from a military aircraft over a populated area in the Middle East in 2025 — an object crossing the frame at speed. 1 The Pentagon's PURSUE site is leading with artist recreations from the batch: large triangular objects, unexplained lights. 2

The tranche also contains a decades-old report describing a dead crewman aboard a crashed metal balloon in Brazil. 2 UFONN notes its presence in the release and stops there. This desk covers objects, not crews, and a filed report of that kind is a document about what somebody once claimed — not evidence, and not something we will build a story around.

Five tranches since May, more than 450 reports, and the pattern holds: the government keeps publishing, and almost nothing published resolves.

The releases run under the disclosure order signed in February. 1 The sixth is expected on the same rolling basis.
